History

Founded in 1979 by Charles and Helen Butt, Nanaimo Physiotherapy Clinic was established after Charles completed a three and a half year period of work at the NRGH (Nanaimo Regional General Hospital) physiotherapy department. In 1966, Charles completed a Bachelor of  Physical Education from the University of British Columbia and later returned to UBC to complete his Bachelor of Science in Rehabilitation Medicine – Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy.  Charles was inspired to pursue a career as a Physiotherapist after sustaining a fractured patella during a soccer match that allowed him to experience firsthand the benefits that physical therapy could offer for rehabilitation.  Our gratitude goes out to all of the physiotherapists, physicians, surgeons, and healthcare practitioners from across the province that kindly offered their advice and guidance to Charles as it was instrumental in the establishment of a successful private practice which today is carried forward by his son Brandon Butt.
